Default Brain has baby brains...

I have a Trachyphyllia (red and green) that has been doing quite well - been in my care for about 4 months and seems to have settled in well.

I noticed today that it has several "buds" for lack of a better expression growing on the lower part of the skeleton. These are about 1" across, while the main coral is about 8" across.

These buds are completely shaded from any light because of their location, yet they have exactly the same coloring as the main body of the coral. I don't understand how they can have the same coloring with no light???

Is it possible to frag them? Will they drop off on their own? This is a new phenomenon for me...
