![]() So there I am lying down on my couch watching TV and one of my cats lying next to the lip of the tank watching the fish didn't have the egg crate on top of the tank and all was good. Next thing I know all hell is breaking loose my cat is screaming bloody blue murder my other 2 cats who were lying on my chest and legs left deep bloody track marks on my body and the one who had started it all was thrashing her head around in a frenzy.
In full panic mode I grab her to see what had got her in a panicked frenzy and firmly attached to her right ear near the skull was one of my larger Blue hermit crabs. I managed to get enough control of my cat to pry the crab off her ear which surprisingly was easy to get off and put it back in the tank minus its Shell I still don't know if it got flung off or if the crab was looking for a new home. It's not uncommon to see my blue hermits sit at the lip of the tank but have never gone over so I'm assuming my cat who likes to lay her head on the lip of the tank offered the crab a chance to go somewhere new. I also did not think the claw would be big enough to grab onto something like a cat ear but I was wrong. Final tally: 1 human a bloody mess with 9 new claw marks, 1 cat with a sore ear, 1 blue legged hermit with no shell but alive for now, 1 broken dish and one overturned lamp. |

![]() I'm sorry, but I had to laugh at that...
I have seen crabs on the lip of various aquariums I've had in the past, currently there is a thin strip of coralline algae, the crabs have no problem scaling up it. I hope the kitty is okay ![]()
