![]() Good idea Bill. I could add plywood around the edge and rout a channel. Could I get close to the dark, dark brown color with a stain? I'd also need to add a strip of veneer along the cut edge.

![]() I think you could rout straight in to that top piece that the tank sits on. And you can probably find a stain that is pretty darn close to that one.

![]() do you have a hundred or so dollars?
Go to a granite or quartz counter specialty store. ask them for a scrap cut out from a countertop (usually have the sink cutouts laying around if the customer hasnt taken it as a glorified cutting board). If they cant do it - they should know someone who can. Most machine shops with a CNC machine will be able to do it. just need the right bit. ask them if they can do what was suggested above - route a channel and drill a small drain hole. also have the hone and polish the edges for a nice finish ![]() |

![]() Funky_fish: Thanks! Unfortunately, the top is Ikea particle board. It chips when cutting on a table saw so I suspect it won't rout cleanly.
phi delt: Great idea. It would make a nice solid and flat base for the tank to sit on. |
