I'm thinking about getting a 2x250watt MH with 4 PC actinic light fixture for a custom tank I'm getting that's going to be 48x30x20. Does anyone think that this fixture will be too much light? I don't want corals to burn but I wanna be able to keep some nice sps. I'll also mention it would be an odyssea 48 inch light fixture

I think that's a perfect amount of light, I wouldn't worry about burning anything.

I personally am of the belief that you can't have too much light. We can never replicate the power of the sun. It's a matter of how you use your light and how much time you have them on. Hope this helps in your decision of selecting your lighting.

It's not too much light but I did shock my corals. They're slowly forgiving me and getting their colour back. Take it slow! Right now I have my mh on for 5 hrs/day which isn't much but I really messed up with how fast I ramped up the second mh when it was added. |

So what would be a proper amount of time to start with? For instance I have a 30g tank that I just put a single MH on and have it set to run for 4hrs from 11hrs of two T5s
