![]() So I have had some major things happen lately that have put my welding company in the crapper thanks to a partner that is a lier and a thief. I have been dealing with accountant's, lawyer's, rev can and soon the RCMP to try and re-gain some of what belongs to me.
I have been thinking long and hard about many thing's but my mind always come back to the one thing that I enjoy the most lately, my SW tanks. What I am trying to get to is ..... would it be worth it for me and of coarse you....to start up a small SW business out of my home. I have a large RO system that run's my whole water supply, I really like building systems from the ground up, have been successful building with acrylic, drilling out tanks, building stands out of metal, wood and both. I would have to start small unless I can get some kind of funding grant from business development bank of canada and find . I have also chatted with a few other owner's of some of our favorite shop's and they all have offered to help in any way they can. I also would have to find a bunch of small tanks that could be divided to house fish and a few medium sized tanks for coral. So what is your opinion? Would this be something you could support as a customer?

on a side note if you can make money at it and you enjoy it go for it start small get stocking list ideas from ppl in your area. carry one brand of salt you yourself use to start a few additives. and maybe for the first while order fish by request untill your set up completely this way you dont have livestock sitting for too long. it will be a tough road to start but being a home base buisness you canstill do some welding here and there untill takes off. if you ship i may order from you as well ![]()

![]() I'm not local but food for thought:
-add up your total monthly household expensives/bills -determine how many $$'s it takes to run your household/month -add to it a profit you need to see in order to make it worthwhile -divide it down by roughly 30 days a month -figure out what you'd need to sell per day If the numbers seem do-able I say go for it!!! If the numbers aren't looking good, do it as a "second job" open evenings and weekends!! Cheers and g-luck!! |

![]() Go point's and have thought of all that as well, this would be a second job. After 19 years in the welding trade I am not ready to just throw in the towel on that. I will be more than likely start another welding company WITHOUT A PARTNER I might add.

![]() I would be interested in seeing something in Red Deer. But to be honest I don't know if running it off of your acreage would really work. The only people who would know about it would be a handful of us who frequent canreef. A shop in Red Deer city would get more business (better exposure to non-canreefers) but cost more as far as overhead goes.
I think you almost have to "go big or go home" as the saying goes, a guy up in Edmonton had an invert shop set up in his house and did a fair amount of business but I don't think he ever made enough to quit his day job. Maybe if he had set up a shop he could've. I'll try to put some more ideas together but I've gotta run right now. |

![]() I personally believe it is a very hard business...maybe as a side thing it would be ok...but for a sole income/business it would be a hard go. I'm not saying it's impossible, (but as a business major from back in the day)

![]() It would have to a second business / job because without a full store front I know it would not be enough to take care of all my monthly expenses.

![]() Two words: Red Coral Red Deer
(I never said I could count, BTW.) On a more serious note, sorry to hear of partnership troubles. Good luck whatever you end up pursuing.
