Angry So frustrated with Dietician/nutritionist

bit of background information. I am a Kinesiology student and general health nut. One of the requirements for this degree is a good knowledge of nutrition. I recently had surgery that caused me to not be able to handle high fibre fruits and veggies due to things getting blocked in the plumbing. after a few months of pretty much just eating protein and carbs i really missed fruits and veggies, so i decided to go to to nutritionist.

Biggest waste of time ever!

The first one sat down with me and told me about proper portion sizes, then basically threw that canadian food guide at me.

I thought that maybe i had just gotten a bad referral to see this person, so i made an appointment with another nutritionist and explained my problems with the last one in hopes to get some better answers. I was wrong. This next one suggested that I drink V8 and make smoothies. advice that anyone with common sense would put together. To top it all off i asked for some options for iron rich food besides things like red meat. She pulled up google and typed it in there to get answers.

Seriously. Unless your diet is absolute crap and you have no idea on how to change it, do NOT EVER go to see one. /rant

Eat a plant based, whole food diet. Limit meat, dairy and alcohol intake. Avoid processed and sugary foods. Have a food sensitivity test done if you are having problems (ie. skin, bowel, etc). This will tell you which foods you should avoid.
Exercise a lot.
This is the key to staying healthy and young looking.

Both my husband and my mother have had to go see a dietitian and have left shaking their heads. It seems their education is centered around people who only eat Mickey Dee's and kraft dinner

I think dieting is a state of mind. I eat whatever I want and that makes me happy and when I'm happy I stay trim. I think worrying about what you eat all the time is probably more unhealthy than that delicious 1/2lb burger and fries at Costco for only $5.99 with a drink!

If you went to see a Nutritionist, therein lies your problem. I think in only a few provinces is the designation Nutritionist protected - anybody can call themselves a Nutritionist.

Dietitians on the other hand are professionally designated and are regulated by a college in Canada - so go see one of them.

edit: Accoring to wikipedia, only in Quebec, Alberta and Nova Scotia is the designation "Nutritionist" regulated.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nutritionist

Hence in BC, any joe schmoe with a Canada Food guide can be a Nutritionist.
