Kinda looks more like a white-cheek tang, A. nigricans.

Brad,

I think you are right. I've e-mailed J&L about this as I requested the A. japonicus.

This one at least appears to be eating well.

Personally, I think it's the nicer of the two. It's also more expensive, so you got a deal. I have one also and it's just a great fish. I'd tell Allen you emailed him accidentally

Here is a pic of mine. This is about 9 months ago so he looks so small and cute. (big Pig)

It was sold to me as a powder brown tang but it's consitered a White-Faced Surgeonfish or Acanthurus japonicus
Check out this link great info on both fish

I think someone is mixed up (and it might be me). The first pic is a nigricans, Jakets' appears to be a japonicus. I guess the nigricans is called the real powder brown? And the japonicus is the white cheeked?

Not to worry Reef_Raf. After rereading the link I posted above I was confused again as to what I had.

But you are now correct.....I think.
No ya you're correct

Mine is an A. nigricans for sure. I e-mailed Allen at J&L, they will give me a fish and shipping credit if it dies since they sent me the wrong one.

I read the wetwebmedia article on powder browns and they lean pretty heavily to the A. japonicus saying that the A nigricans is much harder to keep and usually dies.

What do you feed him Reef_Raf?
