Sump :D

so got my sump yesterday, decided i think im going to try baffle-less if i do put baffles in it will only be the bubble trap.

wondering if this will work
i have a HOB filter thats kinda old and not a really nice or anything, kinda junky
so my plan was to take the little cartrages out and buy some carbon bagies and maybe some other filter media and hang it on the back of my sump, would this be better then just dropping the bags into my sump and will it provide much filtration (ment for a 10 gallon) or is it a waste of my time/ money
