Default Theoretical value of an aquarium...

Speaking hypothetically, what would one expect the value of a large aquarium such as mine, and how much of a market is there? I mean everything, all livestock, equipment, everything, as a package. Just curious. Never know when life will throw you a curveball.

I think it is much harder to sell entire systems and get as much as you would if you sold everything individually.

For individual items, as a seller I try to price my items like this: 90% if the item was never used. 70-75% if it was used less than 1 year. <60% for over a year.

As a buyer, if a used item was being sold for more than 80%, then I would prefer to buy new with warranty.

Teevee, it would be almost impossible to sell the entire system as a package, IMO. Unless you let it go dirt cheap..

Heck just look in the buy and sell forum and look at the people that were trying to sell the whole package and ended up piecing it out.

I have bought a few systems in my time.

You usually dont pay more than 35% of what the equipment would be worth new and most will sell for about 25% of what was paid.

Selling individual pieces is the best route for maximum recapture of the invesment, but even then it takes time.

JMHO.

Keeping in line with Zulu and Reef Raf, systems are hard to sell for what there worth. Right now a customer of mine is selling a very very nice 230 with everything, he paid over $9500.00 and he will probably see less than $4000.00 for it and it is about 6 months old. You also have to be prepared to wait awhile if you want to sell as a package. As far as when I buy setups, which I do sometimes, the last setup I bought had recent receipts for well over $12,000.00 and I bought if for $1500.00, it was 1 year old.
