IMO the only way is to set up another tank to see and buy one and have it in the tank with what ever corals that you have like SPS lps Softies clams, feed the tank 3 times a day and watch it, i think that is the only way to find out and its good for QT the fish too to see if he gets ick. flames are hit and miss i have had 4 flames and 1 was good to go and i sold it wow what a idiot for doing that.

good luck

Also, just because a flame does well and doesn't nip at one persons corals doesn't mean that same flame will be well behaved in your tank. Trust me, been there. Changing up their environment can change their habbits for better or worse. Just something to think about. That's why people always say flames are a crap shoot. If you value your corals, just be prepared!

Now, all that said, most people who have well behaved and established flames probably don't want to get rid of them ;-). In other words you could be waiting a long time. So you might be better off gambling with one from a LFS.
