![]() Yesterday, it was a hot day, my tank shoot up to 88 F, and i don't have a chiller so i put a fan on top of the water and let some cold bottle of water floating in my tank. This morning, it is sitting at 76 F, I hope i did not kill all my coral.
What are your method if you don't have a chiller? Please share ________ THREE SOME Last edited by Coleus; 04-30-2011 at 04:47 AM. |

![]() i use the aquacontroler to power my heat and my one 4 inch fan on my 180 gallon.
temp is always within 1 degree difference. They have one left at redcoral last i looked. http://redcoralaquarium.net/onlinest...roducts_id=440 Last edited by fragNplug; 07-18-2009 at 05:40 PM. |

![]() Eep! 88 to 76 is a huge swing! Try keeping your base temp a bit higher like 78 or 80 degrees, and then use fans to keep it down. You can also time your lighting so it's on during a cooler part of the day. Luckily I have central air, and the tank doesnt' go above 80 even with the halides and T5HOs running.

![]() My central air is toast but I get by with one of those 4 in 1 units on rollers which I have next to my tank. It's on a timer to run for most of the day and I have the temperature selected around 27 C so most of the time it runs only as a fan. When the room temp hits the 27 threshold, the unit kicks into air conditioning mode and does a nice job of stabilizing the tank temp. I have the louvers of the unit pointing up towards the lighting and that seems to work well. I think you can get the newer version of these moveable air con units for around $600 which is probably close to what a good chiller will cost. The good thing about the portable, is you can use it as a heater in the winter, de-humidifier or just as a fan. A chiller is solely made for your tank and can't really be put to use on anything else.

![]() I bought a portable air conditioner. Acts to keep a few rooms nice and cool and the tank temp in check. I was going to buy a chiller but this way we stay cool as well

![]() Glad you got your problem dealt with... I had heat issues until I spent 10 bucks on on a fan. A 6" fan blowing directly on the MH fixture and my temp is 80 F at all times. Never varies, with the tank almost completely covered in glass.
