Default river rock for base

Hello im just wondering if i could use river rock as base rock...not lots just a few pieces at the back where there will be no light and outa sight ....just a thought thanks....

I would n ot use river rock in a saltwater tank. The salt will leach out all the minerals and metals and could poison the water. You just do not know what the rock contains.

River rock would be too dense to support the bacteria that is benifitial to a reef tank.

This.

Keep in mind why we use live rock in the first place, it is a "home" for the bacteria that keep our tanks alive. Dense rock that isn't porus is unable to support it.

+2. Use the base rock that is offered... you can even buy the dry stuff, it will become live in time.
