Default running a kalkstirrer

For people that have one do you have it stirring constantly or on a timer?

I control mine with my ProfiLux Controller. It comes on 4 time per day for a period of just 1 minute per time. If you run it any longer you tend to drip a combined water and Kalkwasser mix. You want to drip just saturated clear water.

I run mine on a timer that has 8 cycles. I have it come on 8 times a day for a minute each time. Timer cost me $35.00 at the hardware store.

I believe the ProfiLux to be the best value controller available. It continually amazes me on what it can do. In order to reduce the overall cost I have only purchased the modules that I wanted and it is doing a fantastic job. I was able to sell off a number of my old controllers (madusa, timers and pin point) thus reducing my out of pocket costs to about $300. Unfortunately there is no one in Vancouver carrying the ProfiLux product.

I run mine on a timer, and the timer is my RKE.

Default Kalkstirrer maintenance

How do you run your kalk reactor? I have been making a slurrey with about 1/2 cup of powder. This seems to last about 3 weeks, then my PH starts to drop. What do you do at that point? Add more, or clean out the stuff that's left and start again with another 1/2 cup? Or if you start with a larger quantity, does it last longer?

I haven't yet figured out the best method...

I run mine at about 10-15 minutes every 4 hours. I use 5 heaping tablespoons of kalk. powder in my reactor and replace the powder every couple of weeks.
