can i do this?

i find it very hard to sleep at night, with my filter running and protein skimmer on. so i turn them off at 12 and on again at 730. will this harm anything i have had no problems so far. ( one month) 9 smal fish 55 gal tank 100 pounds of rock. but i do keep the power heads on.
