![]() you should get a refractometer, or get a hydrometer if you dont want to dish out for the refractometer. Then you can measure to 1.025 or around there.

![]() with a new salt you're unsure of go with 1/3 cup per gallon so you don't waste salt in case the level's off. it's easier to remove water then to remove salt.
