Default Luxeon blue LED's

So I was shopping for parts for a project of mine. and grabbed three of these little babies for fun. One red one blue and one royal blue.

I have to say if I were to use anything over my tank it would be the Royal blue for sure. The one shot you are seeing is of my ceiling. The Royal blue is the lower right hand circle and the blue is the upper left hand shot.

I can see me using two to four of these royal blues as actinic supplementation. The blue isn't that nice of a color. Closer to the green end of the specturm.

I'll say one thing. have a headache after setting these things up. Very Very bright. Not bright enough to be worth the cost tho. Yet. As I type I am using the two of them to illuminate my whole living room enough to see clearly with them aimed at the cieling.

NOw that I look at the color comparison I have to say that the one"blue" is more like a cyan. Not blue as listed. Grrrr.. It is green.

here are some specs.

Royal blue 455 nm Blue 470nm.

So I am guessing I have a Blue and Cyan. There isn't a tinge of violet to the deeper blue. hmm oh well interesting. Maybe a combo of two Blues and two Royal blues. hmmmm

After testing the lumen output of these two I know now I have a cyan and blue. ~ 30-50 lumens for the cyan and ~10 for the blue.

Default Cool

Darren, how many would I need for my tank? Would one or two work as a moon simulation?

Easy way to find out for sure. I bring these over and we test it out.

I'd guess two of them at either end of the hood angled at about a 45 degree angle to have a spread over the whole tank. Four of them tops. sit them at the front corners and aim them towards the middle of the tank.

Well they both bring out a very strong flourescent glow in polyps. Very bright.
