Default Need ID on the algae

Can someone id this algae? It's purple and has a brushy feeling to it.

You'll see the pic in my gallery , I can't seem to post the pic.

Thanks

Are the branches "Y" shaped? I think it looks that way from the pic if so it's most likely Dictyota algae.

Yes they have a Y shape tip could be a Dictyota algae sp. but there are many kinds.Maybe someone will ID precisely but it's a good start. For now it doesn't seem to be a problem algae it's actually pleasing to look at.

Thanks

It looks like a branching type of coralline algae to me. Dictyota is brown, flat leaved and quite wide (if that makes sense). The stuff you have looks pink/purple and thinly branched as well as brittle. I don't have my Reef Invertebrates book with me, but there is a pic in there of it with the name I believe.

Yes, looks like a branching coraline to me. I would love to have some of that in my tank. Tom R had some in his tank. Maybe he knows more about it.

I have an idea what it is , it's either Amphiroa cryptarthrodia or Jania rubens.
It's hard to say.
