Default Ice Probes

Todays snowfall has reminded of something I considered many times this past summer as I was switching frozen ice bottles in my sump. Chillers. The $700.oo units are far more than my needs for those rare heat waves here but the "Ice Probe" looks like an affordable alternative for my 60g. Any comments on these units? Thanks.

Do a search on RC about them.. the excitment was high but they were disapointing in the end as you needed a bunch of them to do any good.

Agree with Steve, for the amount they can chill it hardly seems worth it.

It seems everyone worries about the cost of a chiller, I bought a 1/4 hp used UMI for $400. Saw another one in the local buy&sell, 1/5 hp the guy wanted $550.

Best time to buy them is in the winter......

Hello,

I once had an opportunity to buy a few of these from a distributor at Irvine, CA. But I decided not because the performance is just not that great to do any good. With the amount of heat down there, I wonder why would anyone be buying one, if we up here in the North aren't finding it too useful also.
