Default Lighting on Sump/Refurgium?

What type of lighting is best for my Sump/Refurgium? I have a PC light I plan on using on it (65 watt) but is there anything else that I can use on it? Is this overkill for a Refurgium. It is mainly for macroalgea growth.

So in general what types of lighting works on a Sump/Refurgium and how long do I keep the light on? I have been told to keep it lit 24 hours a day. Just wondering how others have set up their lighting.

if you can find a 6500k bulb, your macro will grow like crazy. Depending on which algae you're growing, you may or may not want it lit 24 hours a day, some will go asexual and reproduce like crazy if the lights go off. If you do only run the lights for 12 or however many hours a day, run it opposite of your tank so it keeps your pH more stable.

The best results people talk about have been with floodlight style lamps. Either fluorescent or halogen the internal reflector makes a big difference focusing the light into the fuge. A regular spiral fluorescent at the right colour temp (Philips Daylight are cheap) works too but I got way better growth the the floodlight.

Here's an article:

I use a 75w Philips Natural Daylight halogen from HD and it works very well, pretty good colour on it, I'm guessing around 4500K. It was only about 10 bucks but it throws a lot of heat so the fluorescent is probably a better choice.

You can order the bulb that melev uses from here:

I'm changing up some of my FW tanks soon so I've been thinking about getting some and I think someone else was talking about them recently as well.

Thats a pretty good light. I wonder what stores in town would carry them. The 51k style.
