Siganus punctatus (Gold Spotted Spinefoot) Rabbitfish
JL got one of these fish in and I decided to take a chance on him.
I know it's risky due to him being a rabbitfish, but I have been keeping an eye out for one of these guys since I seen a picture of one in someone's reef. I'm sorta crossing my fingers that he'll work out, with my other fish and corals. Does anyone have any personal experience with this type of rabbitfish? Resources on the net are fairly vague and not very detailed. They had him ID'd as a Siganus guttatus, but I believe he's a Siganus punctatus. It's not a guttatus. I have a few guttatus. You've got yourself a real nice fish there!

Psyire-I just got one also! What a beautiful fish! He's picking away at all my algae...was within a couple of hours of delivery. Check out my "New additions to my 120g" thread and it has a pic of mine....is yours quite large? I found a fair amount of information on him...but it was a bit conflicting with his name...I did find him listed as guttatus in a couple sites I found but also as punctatus. maybe Albert can post a pic of his guttatus.

Here's a link: http://www.cichlids.ca/images/galler...96c0dfd83f3b8d Mine are still juvs, though, so they haven't developed a very strong orange spotting yet. But you get the gist, the base color is a lot lighter than what you're looking at with the punctatus. There's also a large, orange spot at the base of the dorsal fin, near the tail.

Also called: "Orange spotted Rabbitfish"
I was looking at one that Riverfront had a while back, and decided to research it first. Good thing I did because I found out that they get huge! 40 cm in the wild. How big is your tank? They are algae eaters so they will need nori etc.

I was going to get that rabbitfish but found a Foxface instead. J&L told me it was an Orange Spot so all the research I did was for that. The Gold Spot is far less common I understand. How did you find out it was a Gold and not an Orange?

Yeah they do get big, but I have a 180g that he'll grow up in. I'm planning a 3-400g for the future, so I should be ok. (if not I know a few people with large tanks)
I just got him and he's acclimating in my 'fuge, looks cool.. but he's in his camo colors, lol
