Default 120 Gallon Overflow

I Have just bought a 120 gallon tank and I am going to have it drilled by the guy who made it. Problem is I don't know where to build the overflow box. In the center or in the corners. What are the advantages and disadvantages of having them in these areas?

Does anyone know of any websites that would give some specs on this subject?

Thanks

Stan

This link should keep ya busy for a while. .

I'm in the process of building an overflow box for a 65gal tank I just drilled. I was originally going "coast to coast", but decided to just have a larger corner overflow with the drain in the back glass panel.

I'm all in hype about the coast-to-coast overflows, but personally have a large corner overflow with a durso

Unfortunately the link doesn't work could you try re posting or direct me to the exact location in reef central

I think you need an account on RC before you can view the thread contents.

I like the coast to coast also I think it would take the stress off the bottom

Borrowed from MarkS of reef central

Sorry about that Stan, but DanG is right, you need to become a member of Greef Central, before you can view it. Once you become a member all of the wonderful knowledge of reefing will open up to you . The link is under Anthony Calfo's old site "All things salty". Definitely one of my favorite forums.

You can search RC using their built in Google RC search:

http://reefcentral.com/search.php?menu=11

You should find more than you'll ever care to know about on the subject

Basically the advantage of the center overflow is that is skims more of the tank water as it is 3 sided vs the 1 side of a corner overflow. The nice thing about a corner overflow is that it is easier to aquascape around and easier to DIY.

Thanks for the replies all.

Couple more questions

What the heck is a coast to coast overflow?
What thickness of glass is best to use in building a overflow box?

I have been a member of RC since 2001 but I only have two posts I find the site a little overwhelming at times but I will check it out on the subject.

A coast to coast overflow is where the overflow stretches from one end of the tank all the way to the other.

As for the thickness of glass, you could get away with using a thinner glass as once the tank is full there is no real pressure being applied to the glass. Just take care when filling your tank and try to fill both sides of the overflow simultaneously.
