Default Double Pane Your Tank!

Hello,

Guess what I saw at Superstore tonight? All of their fish tanks are double paned! The bottom piece is like some 3/4" stuff, then all the sides are like 1/2" and double that for the second pane. Wow. Expensive tanks. I wonder how much money they can earn by selling fish. I suspect the margin for fish to eat are relatively low.

Thing is though; without the double pane there'd be condensation pouring off the glass.

Hello,

Well... a lot of fish stores use single pane tanks. Besides, it's a bit chiller in Superstore at the fish dept compared to other fish stores too.

I suspect the double panes are more for safety than anything else. When you've got such high traffic in those stores you have to be careful of the tanks getting broken and people getting hurt. They are more likely protecting themselves against liability than doing anything for the fish.

Like Troy said it is a cold water tank so the double pain makes it so you see the fish not the condensation dripping off the glass..
