Default ethics when buying & selling

I don't know if this bothers everyone as much as it does me but i think people have to show common respect for fellow reefers. When selling and you receive a pm message the seller should give the first person to respond the first chance at buying, especally when that person phoned and said they would buy the item and set up a time to pick it up.As the buyer you also have to commit if you said you would buy, when you get to where you are buying the item it is rude and uncalled for when you buy other items that are on hold for a fellow reefer who will be coming at a later arranged time.Maybe Canreef can set up a buy/sell feed back forum to warn reefers of these people. What happened is i told a seller i would take all the rock they where selling for $3 lb,when she got back to me i found out 1 of the pieces was sold so i clearly said i would take the other 2 pieces and would pick up sunday as i was at reef b.c meeting the other reefer who got there before me also bought 1 of the pieces on hold for me.In future think about others not just yourself.I hope i don't sound like a jerk but i am very angry. Paul

I agree

That is up to the seller to inform other buyers that those items are on hold.... as if they did properly then the other buyers would not even have a chance to buy them.

Although I'm sure if someone offers more I can see why the seller would prefer the higher offer, however they should FIRST inform the original buyer that they have had a higher offer and if the original buyer can match it then its his. Am I making sense? hehehe.

Although I too like the principle of a handshake agreement, a dollar in hand is worth so much more than a dollar that's "promised". I think the real solution is something like buyers putting in their add whether they will hold items or sell to the first person who actually shows up with cash.....
Just my 2 cents...

If you want to buy it, then get there as soon as possible. If you can't then maybe you could arrange some sort of money transfer as a deposit ( everybody has computers and the internet )

This has happened to me a few times before when i said I would buy something then a few days later when i contacted to tell them i was coming over it was gone.

Just like it has been said in this thread and also the other huge one that has been going around for the last 4 weeks or so, money speaks volumes

But if the seller said that they will hold them for you then they should be intitled to you not the first person how shows up with money!!!

As a seller, hearing "I'll buy it" isn't enough, IMO. Be more specific. Give me a timeframe, and a reasonable timeframe at that.
If someone can't buy something in say a week and meanwhile there is someone else who is "second in line" but was ready to purchase it yesterday, well...

It can be a tough call, sometimes.

Cheers,

When you have gone to the effort of p.m twice and calling to confirm i think that is trying really hard,Unfortunatly i have family commitments too.
the post was at midnight friday called sat am committed to sun am not unreasonable.as i said earlier the buyer also must step up.Since i started in the reef hobbie i have found everyone in the lower mainland to be very helpful. Paul

You misunderstand me.
I am not targeting you directly.
I'm simply offering an opinion on the topic in general.
Comments regarding the topic in general are bound to come up in a thread such as this.
And yes, I agree. The buyer must step up. With information right from the get go, not "a few days later".

Cheers,
