will a microatx mobo fit in a standard atx case?

Hard to say without looking at your case. Quite a few cases I've come across are compatible with matx motherboards, then again, I've seen quite a few that aren't... In general all you need to do is move a few motherboard standoffs to the correct location, and you're good to go. Easiest way to see is to take your current mobo out of your case and see if there's any slots/holes in the correct general location for mobo standoffs for a matx mobo.

Yes it will. All ATX cases have mounting holes in standard locations that will fit ATX and Micro ATX.

That is not exactly true, i have had some cases that matx boards WILL not fit(well with out some mods with a drill)
