Default Extra Tanks? Please help.

Hey Everyone

Lately, in the past month, I have lost 3 fish, first an anthias, second a yellow tang, and 3rd the other anthias, to some diseas that seems to appear and kill perfectly healthy animals within 24 hours. I have set-up a 29g QT tank which I will be moving our two favorite fish into for now and there will still be 5 fish in the tank. If another one dies, I would like to isolate all the fish until I can re-do the rock, sand, and water. I do not have any tanks to do this with, and I am asking in advance, incase I do lose another fish, if I could please borrow for a month or so any tanks from 10-30g.

Thank-you very much!

Chris

I'd suggest contacting some other people in your area who have more knowledge in the hobby to look after your fish until you can get your tank under control.

To some disease you say? First you gotta understand what that its not a disease, it would be a parasite, which my guess from your previous posts was that your fish had the parasite Velvet or Brook. As a reharsh...your fish likly died quickly due to the parasite growing rapidly in such a small tank, and being heavly stocked with fish and water quality problems. Without understanding or knowing what parasite, how can effectively treat it?

Also noting you pleaded ignorance, to not treating the rest of your fish. Noting you had the same problem a few months back, you never treated even though people offered. So you will continue to have this problem. Why would you stress and take out only two fish and leave the rest in your infected tank? Cause when you put your other two back, your efforts were a waste & the fish are likely to become infected again. Not to mention all the stress that your two fish will under go during this move, netting back and forth time.

Your statement.... "If another one dies, I would like to isolate all the fish" What boggles me is you saying your going to wait for another fish to die before actually treat? How many fish have you lost so far? That is until you figure out you have to TREAT ALL the fish, thats if they dont all died before then. Then before leaving the tank fallow for 6weeks fishless you will likely add more fish before that time and go threw this all over again. For now....I cross my fingers for your poor fish. Since I notice you keep buying fish even though your having problems.

I agree with EmilyB above. You need someone with more knowledge in the hobby to treat your fish, giving you time to get your tank under control.

P.S Yellow tang you lost. Your torn fins... are the first sign to bad water quality and or parasite infection.

Well I had a post up asking for any help because I could not figure out what this might be. Kina hard to understand something when you have no clue what to look for and no help.

water quality problems
My tank appears to have good params, so please dont suggest I have water quality problems, had this been so, I would have fixed it imidiately.

THATS THE PROBLEM and I had a post up asking for help about it, but got no replies, so obviously it is kind of hard to do something when you dont have any idea what your dealing with.

Hmm......... must have had a memory leak because that is not true. I didnt not have this problem a few months back and no-one offered to help me with it cause I didnt have the problem............

Because thats all I have space for at the moment, hence asking if I can borrow some tanks!

Im not stupid.........I would keep them out until the problem was solved.

I agree dumb Idea on my part.

Quote:

3..........the first two fish died a week apart, the tank was fine for two weeks and I assumed whatever it was, should no longer be of worry seeing as it had been 2 weeks since the tang died and the water params were still fine.

Im not stupid........... thats why im asking to borrow tanks!

Whoa nice, massive assumption.

I said I wanted to redo my tank. After I thought, yes maybe I should keep each fish alone for 6 weeks but if im completely redoing the tank then the parasite should be gone, no?

Where do you get your info? Seriously? I think I got the coral beauty a week after the anthias died and about 5 days before the yellow tang died. I figured the anthias just died of some unknown cause. I have heard from most people on this site that they lost a fish and didnt know why but went on with their tanks, I assumed the anthias was just the same.

What would you do besides isolate each fish individually for a long period of time(I was aiming at 2 months, or 8 weeks), and completely redo the tank ie: cook the rock, dump the sand, new water, etc...?

I think your reply was rather harsh, you made many assumptions and some of your suggestions about what i've done were quite innacurate. However, I do appreciate you suggesting it is a parasite and what might be happening.

Well, Chris. I think you are doing a good job. Good luck on finding more tanks for isolation. check the bargain finder for smaller tanks they have for sale.

I agree check your fuge. do you have any caulerpas in there. I hate that stuff.

We know you are trying your best...Good luck!

Hi Chris.

I'm sorry I can't help (no expertise or hardware to offer), but I'm very sympathetic. I hope that you figure this out soon. In my experience as a new hobbiest, this board has generally been very supportive, and I know you'll get the help you need.

Thanks alot for the help everyone! I really appreciate it!

Ed: Thanks alot for the offer! I will see if I can get out there to pick-up the tank, and if so I can also drop off those corals if you want them?

My fuge only has cheato in it, but I will take a closer look in there seeing as I dont bother it much!

Jonah, thanks for the tip!

Matt, Thanks alot!

I've had a few other suggestions on possible problems in my other thread and have come up with another possibility from one of those(sally lightfoot kicking the fish(yes, he does that) and possible internal bleeding??? does that sound stupid?). Also, phosphate problems have come up as a possibility. I will try to buy a phosphate test kit so I can check those.

Thanks for the tips/advice/help everyone!

Chris

Lee(Bulletsworld),

I appologize, I think my reply to yours was a little harsh itself and I appologize for that. I just felt more frustrated, and one of my biggest pet-peeves is being 'accused' or someone suggesting I did/said something I did not say/do. Again, Sorry.

Cheers,

Chris

How is the treatment going? I read in one of the posts that your fish have damaged fins. What size of tank do you have and how many fish do you have in it? There could be a few causes for the damaged fins but do any of your fish show signs of a parasite infestation? The death of you're fish can also be stress related due to territory battles between the fish.

I have a 25 gallon tank ready to go if you are still looking for a tank. I may be able to help with some treatments as well if you are in need of assistance.

Stan
