Default Coralife super skimmer

I finally have this thing working, however I had a question. Is it neccessary to use the sponge bubble production difuser as the water is exiting the skimmer? What does it do? I just would rather have the thing prodiucing a bit more current by letting it hang in the tank.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a bubble trap - will keep lots of those micro-bubbles that pour out of the skimmer from clouding up the tank. Don't believe that the outflow from a HO skimmer would provide any useful current in the tank.

Use the bubble trap for bubbles, and a water movement device for water movement. Maybe another powerhead?

Without the difuser you would have alot of micro bubbles in your tank.
If you are running a sump with a bubble trap , then the difuser is not needed.
It would be ok to use without the difuser in the tank if you dont mind the bubbles floating around.

I tried mine without the bubble trap, the micro bubles weren't the big problem, instead it was all the air it pulled through of the anti siphon hole (big, noisy bubbles)
