Default Live rock..

I bought just four pieces of LR from the LFS to get the cycle going in my tank until J&L has some avail in March... a week ago.
Anyhow, they were nice pieces, but now I noticed they are turning a bit darker brownish.. and a bit of dark green (kind of looks like hair algea) is growing on top of one...? Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

My understanding is that is all part of cycling. One bit of advice I was given, was when you are adding live rock that is not cured, it is best to cycle it in a container and not add it to your tank if you have cycled your tank.

I thought that you were suposed to put the rocks in the tank while you were cycling.. The rock would die but it would all come back after the levels had returned to normal... am I wrong?

Default rock

When uncured live rock is added to a cycled tank the die off from the new rock added will change your water parameters.

If you are getting hair algae the rock can be removed and scrubbed free of the algae in a seperate container of saltwater. Best water to use is cycled water from your tank when you do a water change.
