Default Industrial Lighting

Looking for advice from Lighting Techies (which I'm not) and Cheap DIY'ers (which I am).

I have a couple lighting fixtures which came from the old studio. One is like a regular flourescent ceiling unit with room for (4) 48"bulbs. The other is a hanging unit with a single 48" bulb.

My questions are:

1) How much use can these be to my reef and / or fish only tanks?

2) I can see no rating or specs on either of the units. How can I find out what type of bulbs would be possible to run with them? If I take them apart will I be able to tell from the ballast?

3) Has anybody else used something similar?

I had 36" NO on my fresh water and my FO tanks.I picked them up a Canadian tire.I dont think they will do much good over a reef unless you DIY a hood and put then in as suplimental lighting. For your FO tank they should be fine as long as you don't put anything light sensitive in it.Oh for question #2 they should be NO,but check the number on the ballast.Depending on the lighting needs of the studio they could be HO
