Default Where to place macro in sump?

I don't have room in my stand for a sump and refugium but I still want to add some macro to the sump to help prevent high nitrates and phosphates.

This is the sump I have.

The overflow drains into the same chamber as the skimmer and either gets skimmed or goes under the baffels on the way back up. I was thinking to either section off the chamber the skimmer is in with a piece of eggcrate or to remove the live rock rubble in the chamber in the bottom right corner (under the drip tray) and put some macro in there.

Before I got a dedicated fuge, grew Cheato in the last section of my over/under/over baffles (4" spacing). Looks about where your foam is.
