Eurobracing

I have a little problem. I am in the process of a 110g(72"lx18"dx20"t) build.The tank as it sits now is not drilled and does not have an overlow.It will have a 55g sump with a quiet one 6000 for a return. I wanted to do a single center overflow but the tank has a 14" brace across the top in the middle. Can I cut the bracing out and move it? What would you do?

You could cut it out and put two new ones in, but I would just have two holes drilled instead and have a duel overflow. It will be less of a pain.

As Marlin said could cut and install two but also consider where your lights are going and the position of the braces.

Seems like a wide brace specially if the tank is eurobraced.

My thought was to do a herbie stand pipe, so that is two holes and a considerably larger overflow box. So to do two corners would eat up ALOT of real estate with overflow boxes. Colby at Elite thinks that the 14" brace is overkill and probably not needed. He said cut it out and double up the eurobracing. I would do this but I am on a tight budget and dont want to sink a ton more money into the tank.

My tank is similar in size (70x20x24) and has no center cross brace. Euro bracing is ~2.5" wide using 1/2" glass.

Your flow will probably be under 1000gph so really don't need a drain bigger than 1.5", also could consider 2x1" bulkheads for return and Herbie backup. This would allow you to keep your Overflow chamber fairly small.

Check RC Headloss and Drain calculators, they will give you a recommended linear weir length to use for planning the chambers dimensions.

Why not just use a bulkhead and plumb with pipe to a different location.
Your over flow does not need to go in the center.

Why do you need to remove the center brace? You can still have a middle overflow with that brace in place. Worst case you can drill a hole in the brace if you need something through it.

Was just thinking if a fish or something were ever to get stuck in it I would never be able to get it out. And I do need get some silcone on the inside edge of the overfow box ...dont I?
