What makes you think they are 'sampling'? Is it because the colony is closed up, or are they dying, changing colours?

My blue legged hemits wander all over my zoo colonies scavaging for bits that are caught in between the polyps. The zoos close up but open up fine afterwards. I have at least 25-30 Blue legged hermits in my 90Gal and thriving zoo colonies.

Hey everyone...thanks for the replies....I should have looked closer...the one crab I was concerned about has a "wonky" shell with a hook on it...and he was stuck. Have freed him tonight after watching him for a while and all is well. I suppose the zoos will actually open up now...
