I get mine at Industrial Plastics in Langley. Can't remember the cost, but no, not the cheapest. I actually buy a 4 X 8 sheet, and eventually use it up, has lots of uses for me. Get the thinnest sheet, cheaper, too.
But if you compared your actual costs for all the pieces to make a mesh top to the cost of that size lexan, I bet it won't be much different, maybe even cheaper.
