I am currently only running one tank, but in the past I have run at most two. I once had a 120g "frag" tank in the basement. That one failed miserably because I just wasn't down stairs enough to maintain it. Nor did I want to go downstairs to maintain it.

Then I got this bright idea to plumb a second ("FOWLR") tank to my main 150g reef. This worked out alright because everything was plumbed into one sump which meant that I only needed to do one water change, change one skimmer, media reactors, etc. Ultimately this tank didn't work out for me either because I had built it way too tall. The tank was only 18" front to back so, in an effort to capture more water volume I made it super tall at 28" high! That was a huge mistake because every time I needed to get into the tank my shoulder was completely submerged and I could still barely reach the bottom of the tank. Stupid t-rex arms.. So now I'm down to just the one main 150g mixed reef but have been mulling the idea of setting up a FOWLR in the basement. I'm hoping that someone can talk some sense into me though..
