I should mention too, that with this holder, the top ring of the sock is about 8" above the water level in the sump. That extra height creates head pressure to keep the sock from clogging up sooner. The water level in the sock slowly rises, as the bottom of the sock clogs first. As I said, mine can last 10 days this way, although I change it usually once a week.
If the top ring was near the sump water level, probably wouldn't get more than a few days out of it, before it needed changing. I think too frequent changing is why most people don't like to use filter socks.
