Mine only schooled when very small. I started off with 6 I think, although 1 was a big old guy I had for a few years already.
I like the look of these fish especially when they school but even still by themselves, I just like their colour. So when they stopped schooling I didn't mind so much.
But like many many many other stories I hear of these fish, mine eventually started getting nasty to each other. And one by one, they die off, or jump, and in the meantime you see them with all with torn fins or scrapes and bumps, or just spending their life hiding out in a hole.
I don't think I'd ever bother getting any more, pretty colours or not. I can think of a couple other fish species that would do better if the schooling fish effect is what you were really keen to observe go on.
