Something that I have learned from my 140g system is that I don't have enough sump space for water changes, so I have to move a small pump from one side of the sump to the other to do a proper water change on my old system. So I was thinking about having the overflows from the new tank go into a reservoir tank (RT) and then dump into the sump from one end run to the other end and then return to the main tank. (Skimmer hooked to RT) So I went out looking on all the reef sites to see what other people were doing and I found this setup.(**pic below is not my system**) This is the same concept that I have thinking about except I would have my skimmer hooked into the overflow or this RT. The water would then dump into the main sump and travel through baffling/live rock/sand/return. The fuge may be the first section of the main sump with variable flow control, or a section in the RT....internal glass box with circulating holes?/1 led light........too much to think about at this point.
If anyone has this type of setup or if you have any ideas please throw them out here as this is a perfect time as I am designing this as you read this. The main thing is that I would like a RT that is large enough to do a quick water change. 1.5" valve on side/bottom of the tank to the sewer for dropping the water.....well you get what I mean.
