Playoffs, schmayoffs. So what happens during the rest of the season? It's all out the window. The whole playoff scenario makes no sense to me since all but a few teams make the playoffs. Besides, it's time to plant the garden, hockey should be done by the end of April instead of dragging it out until June!
The soccer leagues around the world have the right idea, every game counts from start to end of season. No playoffs, the team with the most points at season end gets the trophy. There's more incentive for a team to win each game. And the bottom 3 teams in the league get relegated, replaced by top 3 teams in the 2nd league. Seems most of the North American sports are play off oriented, making the regular less important to the post season.
