1st It should be noted that with all marine corals and animals each particular individual will vary in terms of hardiness and ease of care.
Clams are like some corals rely on symbiotic zooxanthellae for nutrient generation and thus are considered photosynthetic feeders.All clams should be placed in tanks that are at least 6mths old.
As for lighting specs, the higher the light level the better for the clam.The lowest light in my opinion would be the T5 as the clam need to be placed closer to the tank top but not to close as sometimes clams tend to exert and squirt water (simply be cautious of how high you place your clam.
