Heres some news for those that are interested....
On the weekend I checked everywhere, including the hood (maybe he didn't like hanging out in the water?) and I even took the 180 degree off of the top of the standpipe (I never glued it so that I can clean if necessary) and looked down and didn't see it. Also didn't see it in either of the filter socks in the sump.
So we shut off the sump pump and with calm water, we looked everywhere and couldn't find it on Monday. So we turned everything back on.
Last night I looked with a flashlight everywhere, no luck.
Tonight I went back to the tank looking under rock, etc, still no luck.
So I decided to check the plumbing again, and I found him hiding in one of the filter socks.
Some how, on his first night, he navigated 3 feet to the corner of the tank, up the wall 24", going above the water line he went over the grate that keeps pesky critters out of the overflow, then went all the way down the side of the corner overflow 24", and then up the standpipe 24", and down the drain.
He must have been hiding in an elbow when I looked down the standpipe on Monday.
Anyway, he's a little worse for wear, but we fed him a piece of uncooked shrimp, and he seems to be okay.
And lets just say I've put eggcrate over the opening to the standpipe, and over the top of the overflow to keep him from going on any journeys again.
Hopefully he survives the trauma... (And doesn't nuke the tank)...
