Don't remove it until you are 100% sure it's dead (and trust me, you'll know when it's dead .. if there's any doubt in your mind, then he's not dead, because they turn into a ball of slimey, smelly, snotty goo within hours.) But they can go through rough patches and come out of it just fine.
Here's a thought though: Test your magnesium. I can tell when my magnesium has gotten low (like 1100 or less) just by looking at my anemones (I have carpets and BTA's). They expand considerably less. I dose magnesium back up to 1400 (never more than 100 per day though) and they are back to looking 100%, and full expansion, within days.
