No sense in offering to work for free... its illegal to hire if your not covered by componsation, the compo paperwork costs more then one would save on a days wages for a labourer. If you got hurt on your first day of work ( 75% of accidents happen the first day) the company would lose everything without you being on their compo, no legit compay would go for that. As well if you show up too early and no one is on site the prospective company could be fined heavely, for not having representation with someone who has not been orientated, then try getting a job after the owner gets ripped because of a guy he's never met. Make sure you have the proper PPE for every site, and the OK from someone before you go wandering around. just my two cents.
