Somewhat similar to a stroke in people, except it occurs in the dogs spine; apparently it can happen to any dog - any age, any time... In older dogs they can MRI with contrast to verify, but that wasn't an option with pepper - as at 14months they didn't believe they'd see enough to make the diagnosis... Luckily there is some likelyhood of recovery as colateral circulation kicks in, but it was a scary two weeks - never imaged having to discuss putting a dog down at just over a year of age...

Pepper was one of those lucky ones, about 2 weeks of being completely paralized, but has made a 90% recovery, she still limps and has difficulty controlling her left legs - but is largely back to a normal life...
