Now this is what forums are all about. It is great to post important information and experience but if not having fun while doing then why continue? May I suggest a red list of donts in tank parameters? Like DONT let your alkalinity run at 3? or DONT have your magnesium at 500 for a long time? or Make sure you turn your lights off? Or if you have a hair algae problem do not try burning it back like a grass fire (water and fire dont mix).
