Sure, there are better skimmers out there but there are worse too.

I am sure the height of the water in your sump plays a huge role in the proper setup of this skimmer, though I've never had one, I know lots of people who do and are quite satisfied once it is all dialed in.

I would do some research, find out how the people who have this skimmer and are happy with it have it set up and then, from there, once you've got some fish or coral to worry about, think about an upgrade if you're not happy.
