Great dogs but they have their ways for sure. We have had at least one for the last 25 yrs. "Weenie", {ya, that was his name}, was 17 when he passed in my wifes arms. There is a thread on him someplace here and on our new guy.
Very possessive as mentioned. And remember they were once bred to hunt badgers, so they can be aggressive. One of ours had minor back problems but we have been lucky with that so far. I have no idea how you keep them from jumping, etc. They are a flying bundle of energy.
Also as mentioned, watch their weight close. Thats a major cause of the back problems. And like most dogs, they will eat until they explode. {Funny my female dobie never did that, I think its a male thing,
}.
They love to crawl under the covers to sleep. Get cold very easy.
