I think if it's a biotype tank, there are some "decent" silk plants that could work as a sort of temporary thing for sea grass etc. maybe in a seahorse tank?

Yep - I have some fake stuff in my seahorse tank cause they need something to hitch to.
Having said that, I have macros in my QT tank waiting to go in to start replacing the fake stuff
