They use all kinds of sand for reef tanks so the black sand is probably fine but you won't get the benefits of the minerals releasing back into the tank. In your case it won't matter anyway. The fresh water stuff is probably OK, just check to see what its main content is. I would think for a fish only system it is not that critical. Just my opinion though.  |
Yeah I was kind of thinking the same. Its a FOWLR system so I don't want to spend the $40 on the Caribsea one. J&L have a cheaper black sand too I will look at.
