It is been my experience that if a fish is not eating in a tiny qt or is stressed to death, moving it to the main tank my save its life.
Dont do it if you see visible signs of ich or bacterial or fungus signs. Close off the lights for one day and stay away from the tank.
The idea here is to give the new fish some space away from the stress of its tankmates.
Feed the garlic regimen as an ich preventative.
