Fair enough, I got some advice from the Photography forum on reefcentral.com which was very useful, and there is a good page at garf.org on the DC240, which is similar to the 280.

Do you shut off your main lights and use the actinics lights or do you use the flash? and advice would be appreciated.

Main tank lights only, room lights off, no flash, exposure adjusted to -.5 (but again you've got to figure out for your own lights) and white balance set to Auto, or sometimes daylight or fluorescent for experimentation. (Never set to Tungsten, or you get all blue.)
For closeups I tried the Macro setting, but it has a fixed focus range of 11 - 18 inches I think, and you really to have to take a lot of pictures to get any decent. I don't have a tripod, so I set the camera on the back of a chair at the right height and try to get my subjects into range - then wait.
With the Kodak closeup adapters (+7 and +10, or combined for +17) it makes real macro shots possible, like the one of the CBS. There's a couple of macro shots at the
Nano-web site as well.
HTH, good luck with yours - let me know how it comes along.
