Oh man, I can't believe that happened!
I know this is a little too late to mention now, but bulkheads are supposed to be hand tightened only. They say not even to use thread tape or anything as you're messing with the integrity of the seal.
At least you're just renting the place though eh?
I'm sure the damage is "hidable"!
